Before I get started with the rest of this post, I just want to apologise for being quiet over the last few weeks. Posting twice a week on here is impossible during January because it is essay and exam period for me. The next posts will be going live on the 24th, 31st and hopefully I be back into my routine by the 3rd of Feb.
Anyhow, as you may have guessed from my social mediaz and my last post, I was lucky enough to go away to Mauritius on my holly-bobs over New Year. It was amazing, and I honestly wish I had never left. But as it was a long haul flight, and we all know how much havoc this can cause on complexions, I had to have a serious think as to what I'd take on board with me. This H&M Handbag has made an appearance on the old blog before, and I think a smart bag is great when travelling in comfy clothes as it adds a little structure to the outfit.
In terms of essentials, I obviously carried round my keys, phone (in it's sleek marble print GoCustomized case - blogger cliché over here), earphones, battered passport, River Island Purse, chewing gum, and my Clubmaster Ray-Ban sunnies, to hide any puffy eyes and to prepare for the (what turned out to be non-existant) sunshine on the other side. For me relaxing music is key on a plane, as I forever struggle to sleep on flights, so some mellow tunes are my go-to for some downtime. Prior to the flight I imported the Gabrielle Aplin and James Bay albums I received for xmas onto my iTunes, and purchased the latest Mumford and Sons album - all of which are ammmaazzing.
Beauty-wise, I try and wear as little makeup as possible to avoid my pores getting all clogged up and my skin completey drying out. So I opted for La Roche-Posay's Rosaliac CC Cream, Maybelline's Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara and the Bourjois Healthy Balance Compact Powder to slap on my face. To freshen up during and towards the end of the flight, I picked up a pack of Simple's Kind to Skin Cleansing Wipes, and made use of my recent purchases and Christmas skincare gifts: the La Roche-Posay Thermal Water, Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Glow Boost Skin Serum, La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo+ Anti-Blemish Cream, and Origins GinZing Refreshing Eye Cream. I found this to be a great skincare regime on board and nothing disastrous happened to my complexion - yay! For hydration elsewhere I opted for my trusty Carmex Lip Balm and mini L'Occitane Shea Rose Heart Hand Cream, and to smell a little fresher I took my L'Occitane Fleur Chérie Solid Perfume - solid perfume definitely the way forward when you have liquid restrictions! For hygeine Hand Santizer is also a must and a Tangle Teezer is great as it takes up so much less room in yer bag than a regular brush.
In a bid to be good masters student I did take my Macbook Pro, M&S Lemon Squeezy Zip-Up Pouch Pencil Case, work and books with me but as it was an overnight flight both ways that didn't prove too successful.... But having brought my 2016 Paperchase Diary I was able to pen down some upcoming dates and get myself organised before the year full on started.
Planes are always fricking freezing, so one must take precautions when travelling. My Next fluffy socks add extra comfort (and I always hope they'll make my ankles swell up less but I'm not sure if it actually works) and I was originally planning on bringing my New Look Black Cable Knit Faux Fur Bobble Hat but on the day I ended up swapping this for my Black Topshop Cable Hand Knit Scarf as it would provide warmth and double up as a pillow. I also spritzed it with the ThisWorks Deep Sleep Pillow Spray for a bit of aromatherapy and as mentionned before I need all the sleeping help I can get on planes. For further hacks, chewy fruity sweets are a must for me as I swear my ears are 100% worse at unpopping compared to everyone else I have ever travelled with and these definitely help. I also wear as much jewellery on me as I can and carry it in my hand luggage as it would break my heart if I put it in my checked-in luggage and it got stolen. I also do the same in terms of carrying my makeup on board, unless it's a liquid.
I hope you enjoyed this little nosey into what's in my bag - I know I always love reading them/watching these videos on YouTube! Stay tuned for Sunday's post as it will be a photo diary of my time in Mauritius.
What are your long-haul flight essentials?

Haha because it is such a long flight I thought I ought to plan what I take! I am quite a forgetful person too, so always try and pack my bag the night before if I can. Thanks for reading :) x
DeleteI need to upgrade my packing game, you literally have everything you could ever need! Love this!!

Thank you so much Louise! Hope this helps and that you have a lovely holiday :) x
DeleteNothing worse than feeling cold on a flight! Especially when you're trying to get to sleep. I honestly can't travel anywhere without a good book - I find it perfect for making time speed by.

Haha being cold on a flight is definitely not fun! When I'm at uni with a whole lot of work, I don't like reading other books than the ones on my reading lists as I tend to feel so guilty. But I can't wait to finish uni and enjoy reading books properly again :) x
DeleteGetting snuggly and warm is the best thing on a long flight. Love the post!
ReplyDeleteAlexandra | www.alyspace.co.uk
Yes, you definitely need to prepare for the blasting air conditioning and try and get as comfy as possible! Thanks Alexandra, so glad you liked this post :) x
DeleteThis is such a lovely post - I love being a wee bit nosy and knowing what others have in their bags.. I do the same and love getting comfortable on a flight - totally agree with them fluffy socks hehe xx
ReplyDeletehttp://kayleighmakesup.blogspot.co.uk
Aw thank you Kayleigh! Haha yeah, I like "What's In My Bag" posts for that reason just to have a little nosey and to see if there's anything I should be carrying around. Hehe yes cute fluffy socks are the best :) xx
DeleteThis makes me want to do a post on what's in my bag for my flight as I'm going away in a few days. But it's a short flight so I don't know haha. But love these type of posts! x
ReplyDeleteEmma | ohflowerchild.blogspot.com
Ah even though it's a short haul flight you definitely should do one! I know how much I love reading these types of posts and that's why I did one myself. Hope you enjoyed this Emma and thanks for reading :) x
DeleteYour bag definitely brings structure to a look and I love the subtle gold detailing! It also fits so much into it, which is amazing for us girls when we travel lol. As well, that lemon pencil case is so cute, I want it.:D

Aw thanks, I love the structure to this bag too and I think it looks so much more expensive than it actually was - it was only from H&M! Ahah yes I definitely don't pack lightly. Aw I'm glad you think this is cute too, thanks for stopping by :) x
DeleteI love this kind of posts! so great!

Ah thank you Rakel, glad you enjoyed this post and thanks for stopping by on my blog :) x
DeleteI cannot believe how affordable that bag is! I love the beanie too!
ReplyDeleteEmma | With A City Dream
Yeah I couldn't either when I first bought it! It's a year and a bit old now, but I'm sure H&M still do similar styles if you wanted to pick one up for yourself. Thanks for reading Emma :) x
DeleteI'm so bad at being organised so I'll definitely be coming back to this post for tips when I take my first long-haul flight in May :)
ReplyDeleteClaire | Stylingo.co.uk xx
Travelling is where I'm most organised cause I tend to get a little stressy and panicy in the lead up to it, as I always think I'm going to miss my train/plane/whatever! Aw I hope you find this helpful, and hope you have a wonderful holiday/trip in May :) x
DeleteOh wow that is quite a lot compared to me haha! I just take my headphones, a little diary, pen, hairties, small moisturiser which I've transferred into a tube thingy, lanolips, socks and I think thats it haha! x
ReplyDeleteKatina | www.katinalindaa.com
Haha I guess I just like to be prepared! I'm not a light packer but I wish I could pack as lightly as you, sounds like some great essentials. Thanks for stopping by Katina :) x
DeleteThese are great essentials. The longest flight I have been one was 4 1/2 hours which isn't too bad!
ReplyDeleteOmnivogues
Thanks Raquel! Ooh yeah that's not too bad, this one was about 11 hours so I thought I needed to be prepared for all that time. Thanks for reading, hope you enjoyed this post :) x
DeleteI really really enjoyed this post, Charlotte! I love "What's in my bag" blog posts and videos. Great picks and your bag is super cute, roomy and stylish! Hope you have an amazing weekend! xx
ReplyDeleteAle | www.alemint.net
Aww thank you so much Ale, it's lovely to read that you enjoyed this! Same I'm a sucker for these kinda posts, so thought I'd write one myself. Thank you, I love this bag too. Hope you have a lovely weekend too :) xx
DeleteLove this kind of post! I always try to wear minimal makeup as well, my skin gets dry so easily. Would love if you could check out my recent fashion post? :)
ReplyDeleteThe Fashion Road
Yeah you really can't beat how "What's in My Bag" posts give you a little nosey round people's lives! Yeah I think minimal makeup is best on the plane, wish I could go bare faced but I don't have the complexion or the confidence to. Thanks for reading :) x
DeleteI love your marble phone case! This has inspired me to be far more organised with my hand luggage on my next trip - and to treat myself to a few beauty bits (I've been eyeing up that Una Brennan skin serum for a while!)
ReplyDeleteLucy x

Aw thanks Lucy! Hope this has helped inspo/organisation wise. The Una Brennan serum is amazing, I have a post coming soon talking about it in more detail, but I have noticed a massive difference since using it :) x
DeleteI love a good nosey into people's bags ;) Fab post. I've been curious about the Una Brennan Serum...

Haha don't we all?! Thanks Eleanor, I really really recommend the Una Brennan Serum it's worked wonders on my complexion so far :) x
DeleteFantastic! Will keep this post in mind next time I need to go on a long-haul flight, you clearly know what you're doing!
ReplyDeleteRags of Love - Alternative Fashion, Beauty and Lifestyle Blog
Ah thank you! Hope you find this helpful when you do, I always like to be prepared for any situation and when it comes to organisation, hand luggage is definitely my strongest area haha :) x
DeleteYes the fluffy socks looks so cosy and I'm all about taking one with me on flights. x
ReplyDeleteSara Ali | http://www.saraswonderland.com
Haha yes they are so so cosy! I hate keeping my shoes on in flight, and these keep me warm. They didn't stop my ankles from swelling unfortunately, but think they helped a little bit. Thanks for reading :) x
DeleteYou are well covered for your travels Charlotte! I love the look Super Facialist serum, I haven't used that brand in ages! I can't survive with out a facial mist and good movies :)
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this post. My friend by mistake put all her family jewels just once and it all got stolen. She was heartbroken... So, yes, never ever put it in the Cargo bag. I really don't know how do these bad people find out if there is something good in the bag.
ReplyDeleteAlso, did it help you sleeping on the flight by spraying on the Deep sleep pillow spray?
Thank you very much for this great post. athletics pit
