If I could describe Max Factor's Excess Shimmer Eyeshadow in Bronze in just three words, it would have to be "Oh My God". I have always been a lover of pairing a bronzey, goldey, coppery eye with my brown eyes, as I do believe it enhances the colour of my irises but the colour of this shadow is just on another level.
Cream eyeshadows seem to be having a bit of a moment in the beauty world with the hype around Charlotte Tilbury's Eyes to Mesmorise and I was pretty much smitten with these little pots of shadow. But when reading a blog post somewhere I stumbled upon this Max Factor offering, and from what I had read, I knew it had potential to be a dupe of the beloved CT shadow. However, being such a strong coppery bronze shade it doesn't strongly resemble any of the Eyes to Memorise collection - though it could be a close cross between Bette and Mona Lisa. Instead, I found that it was closer to Tom Ford's Cream Colour for Eyes in Spice but with a little more shimmer and being a bit warmer in tone.
The main reason I am comparing this drugstore shadow to it's similar high-end peers is because of the pure quality of the formula. This creamy product feels so air-whipped and creamier than any other high street cream shadow I have swatched (and that says a lot). The littliest bit of product goes a long way in terms of pigmentation, and the bronzey copper shade has hints of this 'excess shimmer' in fine gold glitter but I wouldn't say its too much or quite in 'excess'. It blends and spreads across the eyelid like a dream and although you can easily use your ring finger to apply this, I prefer using a flat eyeshadow brush before softening the edges with a blending/crease blush. I wouldn't say this quite has the longetivity of Maybelline's Eyestudio Color Tattoo shadows (read more here), but this comes in at a close second.
Either way I think I'm in love with an eyeshadow (#beautyaddictproblems). The richness of the formula is far from telling of it's high-street price tag as the creamy feel of it is the definition of dreamy. To any other bronze eye-lovers out there I couldn't recommend it more!
Have you ever tried this shadow? What is your favourite cream eyeshadow or are you more into powder formulas?

DeleteHaven't tried this but it looks like such a nice bronze shade for my brown eyes. I'm writing this shade down and will try to find it at my local drugstore!

It really is such a nice shade to compliment brown eyes! Ooh you definitely should, it is such a great product - I can't really believe it's from the drugstore :) x

It's so pigmented and the formula feels so lovely that it seems so unlike anything else of the high street beauty-wise :) x
DeleteI have this colour and I'm allergic to Tom Ford, even though I love his make up - so thanks for sharing this. Now if anyone asks me about my eye colour "it's Tom Ford Dahling" :)

Haha you definitely should say it's Tom Ford! It's such a shame that you're allergic to TF - although I can't quite afford products from the brand, one day I hope to own something by him. This Max Factor is such a great and cheaper alternative though, and in the description of it on Boots it particularly says that it's suitable for sensitive eyes - so I hope this worls out better for you :) x
DeleteLove creamy eyeshadows like that- the swatch is beautiful!!

ReplyDeleteCharlotte // charlottespicks.blogspot.com
It's such a lovely eyeshadow and colour! It is £7.99 in boots but it's £20 less than the likes of Tom Ford and Charlotte Tilbury and definitely so worth it, so little of this goes a long way :) x
DeleteThe quality of this sounds amazing, and the shade is just so beautiful. I want!

DeleteI love the title of this post, haha! I have never even looked at Max Factor shadows, I don't why as this shadow is too gorgeous for words. I have really oily lids so don't tend to go for cream shadows, so I love using my Naked pallets :)
ReplyDeleteHanh / hanhabelle
Haha aww I'm glad you do! I didn't even consider their eyeshadows before reading a blog post that included this, it's such a gorgeous shadow isn't it? Ooh well to make this last longer I do tend to pair it with Smog from my Naked palette, if you fancied trying it out :) x
DeleteAhhh what an amazing dupe!! And is it just me or does it look like chocolate in the pot...? :')
