Scottish Highlands Staycation Photo Diary

24 July 2016

Hi, hello, so it's been a little while since I last posted as my master's dissertation is taking over my life at the minute, so here's a little travel post so I can escape the pressures of research and fuel my never-ending wanderlust. At the beginning of last month, me and my family (and my dogs - if you didn't get the memo from the pics), drove to the Scottish Highlands for a week long staycation. We rented out Shore Cottage which is nestled in the Carskiey Estate on the Mull of Kintyre. Being about 10 miles from the nearest town, it was very much a secluded getaway and for the most part, we had this gorgeous bit of beach to ourselves.

This is undoubtedly the most peaceful and tranquil place I've ever been to, which made a nice change from the hustle, bustle and claustrophobic atmosphere of my university library in exam period. The week was filled with copious amounts of dog walks, reading and photo-taking. This is the first time we have taken the dogs away with us, and despite the long car journey they loved it and now get excited every time they walk past the car as they think they're going to the beach again.

The cottage itself was decorated beautifully and I'm not exaggerating when I say I wanted to take the red bathtub with me when it came to leaving. With window seats overlooking the glorious bay, the views for sunsets over the horizon were gorgeous and luckily the weather was typically un-British so was sunny and warm for our stay. It was really nice to get away from it all (and by all I mean there was no TV in the cottage either), so if you're looking for a secluded dog-friendly break, I couldn't recommend this place enough - though when out walking be careful in the long grass, as I managed to get myself a tic bite and the Lyme Disease scare wasn't all that fun.

Minus my tic incident though, it was an amazing trip. Have you ever visited Scotland? Or if you're a dog owner, where do you recommend we take our pooches next?

  6. Somehow your pictures remind me of a beautiful movie ' The Edge of Love' starring Keira Knightley and Sienna Miller. Although the action was based in Wales. Lovely post my dear :)Carmelatte
