Alongside The Butterfly Cabinet, Arlo in West Jesmond is my favourite spot for brunch in Newcastle. After nearly four years of living and studying here, time again Arlo has never failed to heal a hangover or fill me up for the majority of the day ahead. I lived round the corner from this cafe/bistro last year and so saw it transform from a student hit for breakfast, mums' coffee stop around the afternoon school run and then the lights dim for a cute candlelight dinner. Across all three meals the food is always delicious.
My housemates and I thought it would be nice to revisit one of our favourite places the morning after my dance show and it was good to be back. The interiors are quirky and cute, but also comforting. They stop serving breakfast at 12pm so it's best to head down at 11.30 at the latest as there is always quite a few tables ahead of you in the queue.
I opted for a Vanilla Latte to drink and two of the girls went for tea. Then to eat I chose the Eggs Royale made up of a toasted muffin, spinach, smoked salmon, hollandaise sauce, mixed seeds and eggs that were poached to perfection. Also on the table here was the Cooked Breakfast, Cooked Veggie Breakfast and Eggs Salvador (which was the Royale but with the salmon swapped with chorizo). As a cheeky desert me and Grace opted for a homemade Triple Chocolate Brownie whilst Hannah went for a Huge Hot Chocolate which comes with all the trimmings including mini marshmallows. brownies and rocky road pieces.
Aside from being Instagram gold, the food is decently priced, delicious and enough to give you a comforting food baby. If you are ever in Newcastle and looking for a place for a breakfast/brunch/lunch destination, head here as the staff are always friendly and will get you seated asap. There is a reason for the queue.

Ah did you?! Despite being here for nearly 4 years I still have so many restaurants to tick off my list - I have no idea how I'll get through them all. It's a shame you never got to visit Arlo but definitely try it out if you are ever in town again. The brownie was amazing and just the right balance between cakey and gooey. Thanks for reading Emily :) x
