A Brand Focus: My Essie Collection

30 March 2016

As my collection of  Essie nail polish seems to keep on growing, I thought I'd lay out just how much I love the brand, their formulas and tricks on how to get them a little cheaper than their RRP and what to watch out for when you do.

They aren't the cheapest polishes on the block, but they aren't the most expensive either. I most often pick bottles up during the 3-for-2 Boots deals, despite the fact that the Essie stands don't advertise they're part of it - they are. Or if the shade has been discontinued, I'll have a look on Amazon as quite often someone will be selling it. But when it comes to buying them online the main thing to be cautious about is the old vs. new brushes. If you're purchasing a cheaper version, more often than not it will be in the old packaging with quite a spindly brush. Above I've compared the new brush of Sparkle on Top (the blue glittery top coat) to the old brush of Summit of Style (the gold glitter top coat) to show the differences. In my opinion, the new brush is 100x better as it allows for smoother application in that you can cover a whole fingernail in just one coat rather than several.

For the shades in my collection I'll start at the top of the circle and describe them going clockwise. Lilacism is as the name suggests a smooth and pretty lilac, perfect for spring but I love this so much I wear it all year round. Muchi, Muchi is a serious underrated pink in their collection - it's slightly darker than the famous Fiji, and is a girly pastel pink with undertones of mauve. I got Sparkle on Top as part of the Twinker-Belle Set, and is an incandescent top coat which varies between icy blue and pink depending on the way you look at it. I paired this top coat with the next polish Blanc in my Christmas Nail Post. In my opinion this is one of the best white nail varnishes you can get your hands on, and as it is not the easiest shade to pull off I highly recommend spending a little extra on a white polish - it does take three coats to look flawless, but with a tan this shade is faultless.

Another great holiday shade is Roarrrrange, which originally came out in the brand's Summer 2014 Collection but I wish they kept the shade on permanently. It's a lovely warm and juicy sunset orange and one I like to wear on my toes. Summit of Style also looks quite nice with this orange, and seems to be the one polish every blogger and their mum seems to whip out at Christmas time. It is a gorgeous bronzey gold sparkly top coat.  Mint Candy Apple was the shade that initially got me interested in Essie as a brand as it is such a unique minty, pastely turquoise shade; it's perfect for adding a bit of spring to your fingertips and makes up the second half of the Twinker-Belle Set. Last but not least is another of the brand's most popular shades: Bahama Mama. It's a gorgeous warm plum colour that first made an appearance on this blog back in December's Beauty Berry Edit, and is a brilliant opaque formula.

I hope you enjoyed this little insight into my Essie stash as these are some of my favourite nail polish formulas and shades. I currently have my eyes on Tea & Crumpets, Midnight Cami, Chillato.... I could go on forever.

What's your favourite nail polish brand? And do you have a favourite Essie shade?

    1. I'd say that Bahama Mama and Mint Candy Apple are my favourite shades as they seem the most unique to Essie, and so I can definitely see why they are among the brand's most popular shades! I normally apply three coats of Muchi Muchi to make it a bit more opaque but I can see why it's not for everyone. Thanks for reading Samantha :) xx

    1. Ooh let me know if you get your hands on any more of their shades! Bahama Mama is definitely one of my all time favourites and I think that Muchi Muchi doesn't get the love it deserves on the blogosphere. I do like the Barry M Gelly range but I find that the formula gets a bit tacky after a while :( x

  4. These look amazing! Believe it or not, I never tried any Essie Nail Polish. Being a nurse and rarely wearing any nail polish, I don't have many at home but I will definitely try an Essie nail polish pretty soon x

    1. Ah that is a shame! One of my best friends is training to be a nurse but she loves nail art, so paints her nails as often as she can. The formulas of the Essie polishes are lovely so even if you were to only try them out on your toenails I'm sure you would love them. Thanks for reading :) x

  10. Roarrrange has got to be one of the most beautiful colours I think I've ever seen. I have zero orange nail polishes but this needs to change!

I also have such a love/hate relationship with glitter polish. It always looks SO nice but sweet hot DAMN I can never be bothered with the hours it takes to laboriously get the stuff off!!!
