The Holiday Face

28 February 2016

I promise this is the last 'holiday' themed post for a while here on Charlotte's Road, but thought I'd talk you through the daily 'makeup menu' I opted for everyday of my trip to Mauritius. In the hot climate, there is nothing I hate more than caking on foundation (or eye makeup for that matter) and watching it quite literally melt/smudge/drip off of my face; so I wanted to opt for a light base with a high SPF, as sun cream makes me break out like there is no tomorrow. Accordingly I purchased the La Roche-Posay Rosaliac CC Cream (which has made several appearences on the blog in the last month or two). This corrected any redness in my complexion and left my skin feeling moisturised but not too much so. Though I did buy this before the launch of the brand's Effaclar BB Cream, which probably would have suited my oily skin type better, to add longetivity to the CC Cream I applied the Bourjois Healthy Balance Compact Powder on top.

To apply both base products I used the RealTechniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. Though it needed a serious clean by the end of my trip, the sponge served it's multi-purpose function. Using the flat side of the sponge, I was able to blend in the cream to a much more natural finish than I could achieve with my fingers or any makeup brush I own, and for the powder I was inspired by Sam Chapman's tutorial and used the domed side of the sponge to set the cream in place, paying particular attention to my t-zone and under my eyes.

On holiday, a waterproof mascara is definitely a must for being smudgeproof (or should I say sweatproof?) and withstanding dips in the pool. After reading what seemed like endlessly good reviews of Maybelline's Lash Sensational Waterproof Mascara I caved and though I find it can be clumpy at times, I do love this mascara. It holds a curl fantastically well throughout the day and is possibly one of the most waterproof mascaras I have ever owned. I also love the long, spidery and volumised finish it gives to my lashes.

What kind of makeup do you opt for in the warmer months/when you are away? Any recommendations on products that withstand any weather thrown at them?

  1. I have the non waterproof version of the Lash Sensational mascara and I really like it as well, though I do find it clumpy as well sometimes. I always spend a bit of time wiping the excess product off the brush before I apply it.

    1. Ah I'm glad I'm not the only one to find Lash Sensational clumpy at times! I find that wiping all the excess product from the brush isn't always effective unfortunately, so sometimes I press my fingers against my lashes haha and it helps hold the curl a little! Thanks for reading :) x

    1. Thanks Louise! I've been wanting to try Sheer Glow for ages, but when I went to the NARS counter they recommended Sheer Matte for my skin type and I found it too matte - so definitely need to pick up a bottle. So good that it's weather-proof :) x

    1. I am a full convert to my RealTechniques sponge, the only tricky thing is washing it - I've nearly destroyed mine so will have to pick up another. Thanks for the nomination sweet :) x
