The Mini Berry Edit: Tips, Lips and Lids

13 December 2015

For me beauty-wise the autumn/winter season is all about injecting deeper and darker shades into the makeup and nail side of things. Of all the seasonal beauty trends, a good berry shade will always be my favourite so I've compiled a mini edit of my go-tos for the fingertips, lips and eyelids.

The most recent addition to my collection is the Essie Polish in Bahama Mama. This is one of the brand's most popular shades and for good reason. I'm yet to see a cheaper equvalent or dupe for this rich warm plum colour on other drugstore stands. Opaque within just two coats, this has to be my favourite berry nail polish ever

For the eyes, I'm currently reaching for the EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Gel Shadow by Maybelline in the shade Metallic Pomegranate (which I have done a more in depth review on here). It's not the easiest of shades to pull off, and a lot of blending is needed along the eye crease to make it look like you don't have a black eye - but when you get the balance of this right, it is such a gorgeous eyeshadow. The little hints of gold glitter also add a festive touch, and the formula is very long wearing as the name would suggest and is definitely a one-swipe wonder.

On my lips in the evening I'm alternating between the NARS Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte (the middle swatch) and Rimmel London's Kate Moss Lipstick in 107 (bottom swatch). In these swatches the two seem very similar but their formulas are very different and on the lips their colours do look slightly different. The NARS offering has already had a blog post dedicated to it here, but it is worth saying how creamy and sheeny the finish to this oxblood burgundy is. Despite its finish, it is still extremely long lasting through the excessive drinking and eating of this time of year. This Kate Moss lippy is almost iconic in the British blogosphere and has a truely matte finish. It takes a couple of layers to build a flawless finish with this, but it's definitely a bargain find and the cheapest product in this edit. It also has a fruity fragrance to it, which in my opinion is a bonus.

What is your favourite beauty trend of autumn/winter? Are you a sucker for berry shades as much as me?

  1. Bahama Mama looks so pretty! Metallic Pomegranate looks a lot less pink than I thought it would! Love 107!

    1. Bahama Mama really is such a lovely warm plum shade and I can definitely see why it is one of the most popular Essie polishes! Metallic Pomegranate is such a unique shade, and is really a red toned brown with hints of gold and purple in it - it is even prettier in real life. 107 is definitely a makeup bag staple. Thanks for reading :) x

  3. I have that Maybelline eyeshadow in my drawers somewhere, but I'd forgotten how gorgeous it is - I'll have to dig it out and start using it again! The Nars lipstick has been added to my to-buy list, too!

    1. Haha aw it took me a little while to get used to too - but it is such a pretty shade so it's worth sticking it out! I also tend to lightly line under my eye with it too to balance the shade out and sometimes pair it with Toasted and Hustle from the original Naked palette if I want to tone it down a bit too :) x

  7. I am such a massive fan of the plum/cranberry shades, whether it be with lipsticks, nail varnishes or eye shadows - I am yet to try an eyeshadow this colour though, due to what you said about the bruising effect haha!

Love this post and I am now so tempted to buy that NARS lippy!

    1. Aw thank you for such a lovely comment May! Yes definitely, I hate reserving berry shades just for autumn so I wear them into winter too. It is so gorgeous isn't it? I initially wanted it because it quite literally had my name on it haha but the formula, packaging and pretty much everything about this lipstick is amazing - I couldn't recommend it more :) x
