December Goals

2 December 2015

*completely unrelated picture of a cabbage flower - but hey it's seasonal right?*
I saw a load of these posts floating around the blogosphere September/October/November time, and thought it would be a nice one to write myself - giving me a little break from beauty product and restaurant reviews. In writing down my goals and publishing them all for the world to see, I'm hoping it'll motivate me a little more to achieve them.

BLOG RELATED STUFF
1. Find a better balance
Blogging regularly and consistently alongside of doing a full-time masters hasn't been easy, but this month I want to find a better balance between the two without one or both suffering. After this Friday, my deadlines are over until January so hopefully this will be a little easier to get myself into a routine. I am really pleased with myself that I have managed to get a new post up twice a week for the last couple of months, but I aim not to lose this mojo and not to let it effect the quality of my assignments.

2. Stop comparing myself to others, and instead take inspiration from them
I feel like I am producing content that I am more proud of than I was a year ago but once in a while I need to remind myself that "comparison is the thief of joy". Comparing myself to other bloggers will get me nowhere, so even when I'm down, I want to turn my negative energy into good by getting my blog out there more and writing better blog posts. And instead of getting jealous over other blog's photogrpahy and layout, I want to instead take note of what it is about them I like and find a way to take that into the stuff I create.

3. Reach 350 on Bloglovin'
Numbers really aren't everything when it comes to blogging and I am fully aware of that. If you'd had told me a year ago that I'd be aiming for this number at this point of time, I wouldn't have believed you. My blog has come a long way in the last year and in focusing 100x more of my energy and creativity into my own space over this last summer, I have managed to grow my traffic and following significantly. This goal will seem miniscule to some in this era of blogging, but I still fist pump every time someone clicks the little tick in the side bar of the site or comments on one of my posts, so I hope this blog can reach another 26 people by the end of the month.

4. Make more use of my blog's Twitter
This term I have been trying to get the hang of promoting my new posts via Twitter and get involved with the odd blogger chat, but the majority of the time I've been a bit clueless and when I do tweet I'll have days when I'm completely silent or tweet three times in one hour. So I want to spread this out a bit more and get involved with more chats, instead of joining in in the last ten minutes (forever the late-comer). I also want to get my hands on Hootsuite to schedule tweets for when I'm too busy to do it in real life. Follow me over at @CharlottesRoad1 and leave your handles in the comment box below!

5. Redesign my header
I do like the homemade feel to my banner and I am proud that I designed and drew it myself, but I feel like the aesthetics of my blog have moved on from this a bit. In using my sister's DSLR camera to take my pictures, I think my blog is looking a lot sleeker and my header sadly doesn't capture that for me anymore. I'm still not sure exactly how it'll change so I need to get doodling...

GENERAL LIFE
5. Get my Christmas presents sorted early
Although you won't find me in a petrol station shop (or gas station for any American readers) on Christmas Eve, I can be quite late with buying and deciding what to get people for Christmas. So this year I want to be a little more organised and so far so good as I already have four presents sorted. Woo!

6. Get more into the festive spirit this year
When Crimbo day itself came around last year, it didn't really feel like Christmas so this year I'm trying to embrace the Christmas spirit a little more. Wearing my xmas jumper and blasting Mariah out of my speakers are on my to-do list this week and I seriously need to get myself down to my local Starbucks for a red cup of festive goodness soon. How are you getting into the holiday spirit this year? Let me know!

What are your aims and goals for the coming month?

  2. Some really good goals here, a goal for me is to stop comparing myself to other people as well. Whether I'm comparing my blog, my personality or just me in general, it really is the thief of joy!

    1. Yeah finding a balance is definitely my top goal cause I hate rushing blog posts but then don't have all the time in the world to write them! Ah good luck with your Blogmas - it definitely sounds like a good idea to get into blogging daily, I just know I wouldn't be able to manage with it :) x
