Class of 2015: Beauty Favourites of the Year

30 December 2015

So 2015 is officially drawing to a close... seriously where has the year gone? So much yet so little has changed in a short space of time and I am so ready to wave goodbye to 2015. Beauty-wise this year has been fairly busy and I have been lucky enough to try out a lot of new products (by spending my overdraft and student loan (RIP old friend, I miss you)) and have come out with a fair few new favourites. If you are an avid reader of my little blog, most of these will come as no surprise and full(ish) reviews will be linked up in the names of the products.

Working clockwise from the top, the Lush Daddy-O Shampoo has been a real game-changer in my haircare. In summer I lightened my ends a bit and this shampoo worked wonders at banishing brassy tones, and post-haircut it still brings out the colour in my hair and leaves it feeling silky soft. Soap and Glory's Butter Yourself Moisturiser is so rich in it's moiturising powers but the formula feels so light. The cream also has the brand's Fruitigo scent within it with notes of fig and orange oil, so understandably smells amazing and floats my boat more than any other body moisturisers I have tried. I have banged on about the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renewal Cleansing Oil many a time, but with it's radiance boosting and makeup removing powers it has stopped me from using cleansing wipes on a daily basis and taught me that an oily complexion doesn't mean you have to avoid facial oils like the plague.

Soap and Glory's Solar Powder is a bloggers' favourite, but with good reason. This bronzer is quite creamy in its consistency, offers two shades of bronze (not orange) and allows me to build up a subtle glowy contour and thus give my cheeks a wee bit of definition. NARS' Audacious Lipstick in Charlotte only added to my love of red lipstick; the product literally had my name on it, the packaging is dreamy, the pigmentation is brilliant and it is very long-lasting. La Roche-Posay's Purifying Foaming Gel Cleanser also has an amazing formula that seriously kicks blemish butt and leaves your face feeling squeaky clean. With the results it's given me, I can definitely see myself buying another bottle in the new year.

When it came down to picking my favourite nail polish I was stuck between chosing Essie's Bahama Mama and Topshop's Blue Rinse (not pictured). Both have beautiful formulas and finishes, but as the Essie polish was a late addition to my collection this year I think Topshop's offering wins. Maybelline's EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Gel Shadow in On and On Bronze has been my go-to eyshadow this year after receiving it for my birthday in June. This creamy, gel bronze with a wet-look, metallic finish works well on its own and as a primer to similar coloured powder shadows. It is so easy to apply and blend, adding a pop of colour to my eyelids when I am in a rush or feeling a little lazy. The Mary Lou Manizer by theBalm was also a birthday and another makeup product deserving of its hype. Thanks to this I am now a highlighter convert and would be lost without this gorgeous product in my life.

Okay, so I may be cheating a bit with this one but after trying to find cheaper alternatives to this and epically failing, I realised just how good the L'OrĂ©al Elvive Extraordinary Oil is. I have been relying on this oil for years to keep my frizz in check and heat-proof my hair, and this year has been one of reappreciation for this golden oil. Although I can only make use of this whilst visiting home, the ThisWorks Deep Sleep Pillow Spray is quite possibly one of the best gifts I have ever bought a family member. It really does work in sending you off into the land of nod, the scent it heavenly and has you wake up feeling refreshed in the morning - worth the investment and the hype.

I hope you enjoyed the round-up on the beauty products that floated my boat this year and I wish you all a fabulous new year ahead! What were your favourite beauty products of 2015?

  5. What awesome beauty favorites! I am currently using Effaclar as well now that I am out of this face wash I bought In Fuerteventura on holiday (so sad it is literally the best face wash ever but there is no way to buy it here in Germany). I have been only using it for a week so I am not sure how it is working for me but good to know that you have such positive things to say about it!

    1. Thanks Rae! Ah that sucks that you can't pick up La Roche-Posay in Germany, considering France is next to it. I think it sort of gets to work gradually. I still break out while using it, but my skin has been a lot clearer since :) x
