The Bronze Goldy Brown Eye Edit

22 November 2015

If you're familiar around these parts, you'll be well aware that I'm a sucker for any eye makeup that is brown/gold/copper/bronze in colour. I thought I'd break down the bits and pieces of my ever-expanding collection for you today in an 'edit' form, with reviews and swatches. All of these products are from different brands, drugstore and high end, so there's definitely something for everyone here. Before we get started, apologies for all the shadows in these photos, I took these as the sun was going down and have learnt my lesson (at least you get a sense of the pigmentation though).

THE PALETTE
I'm surprised the original Urban Decay Naked Palette has only made one appearance on my blog as I pretty much use it everyday and it has lasted me nearly a year and a half without hitting the pan - result! Though the Naked Palettes are rather pricey, they are definitely worth it for their longetivity and their beautiful shades and pigmentation. I have swatched my most-used shades (from left to right:) Darkhorse, Smog, Half Baked and Sidecar, and all of these are shimmers with the later being a glitter-based shadow. I personally find this to be the best of the Naked Pallete collection, as it offers a range of cool and warm-toned shades, and so caters to everyone's complexion and eye colour. These shades in particular bring out the colour in my brown eyes - I couldn't recommend this palette enough!

THE DUOS
With these being on different ends of the spectrum price-wise, I thought I'd make note my favourite two eyeshadow duos. The first is the NARS Duo Eyeshadow in Isolde and is the brand's bestselling duo for good reason. The warm coppery tones in these shadows are unlike any I've come across and the formula is just so buttery, this mini-palette is possibly one of my most prized possessions in my makeup bag. I could ramble for days about this shadow, so instead click here for the full review. On the other hand the Topshop Eyeshadow Duo in Woodland Walk is more cool-toned and more shimmery. The lighter shade doubles up as a great highlighter, but unfortunately the product has been discontinued! Of the two, I much prefer the NARS offering but for those on a budget willing to search eBay and Amazon, the Topshop duo is a near-ish dupe.

THE PENCILS
MAC are arguably one of the most hyped about makeup brands, but although the majority focus on their base products, pigments and lipsticks, a hidden gem on their stand has to be the Powerpoint Eye Pencil and this is in the shade Bountiful Brown. The formula is creamy and metallicy, lasts all day and has hints of gold glitter within it. The chunkier pencil is the Rimmel London Scandaleyes Shadow Stick in Bluffing, which is a more light, pinky bronze. This is great for using all over the eye as a base shadow or primer for powder shadows, but also looks quite brightening on it's own. It's super creamy, so also great for blending!

THE CREAM SHADOWS
Last but not least in this edit are the cream shadows *insert heart-eyed emojis here*. The light gold is actually stolen from my sister's Benefit set, the World Famous Neutrals Kit: Most Glamorous Nudes Ever and is the Creaseless Cream Shadow in Birthday Suit (sorry sis). If I'm going for a gold eye look, I'll opt for this as the base since it adds longetivity to powder formulas (I often pair this with Half Baked from the Naked Palette). I did a full review of the EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Gel Shadow by Maybelline in On and On Bronze here, so I'll try not to babble about this but this is the easiest to apply and use out of these cream shadows. It's creamy, blends well and is a beautiful everyday shade. And finally Max Factor's Excess Shimmer Eyeshadow in Bronze has such a dreamy air-whipped formula to it, you wouldn't believe it came off the high street. It has buildable pigmentation, meaning you can have it as sheer or as opaque as you like, if you'd like to read more there's a whole post dedicated to it here.

So, there you have my edit of my favourite gold/bronze/copper eye makeup products. Do you love a good brown smokey eye? What's your favourite colour of eyeshadow/eyeliner?

  4. The first naked palette is like the best palette I've ever seen. It only has one flaw: only two matte eyeshadows. I like NARS duo pretty much.

    1. I think it's definitely one of the best eye palettes available! It's a shame there aren't more matte shades in it but I'm not the biggest matte shadow fan - the Naked Basics Palette has some lovely ones in it though. I couldn't recommend the NARS duo more the formula is so buttery. Thanks you too :) x

    1. Ah thank you Jasmine! Ooh I'd definitely recommend the NARS duo - it is a little pricey but so worth it as the shades are beautiful and the formula of the shadows is so darn buttery and soft. Oh definitely for me too, I wear On and On Bronze pretty much everyday and love pairing it with shadows from the Naked palette :) x
