One from the Archives: a Restaurant Review of Pizza East in Kentish Town

18 November 2015

Looking back through my draft posts, I found this review which was pretty much all written up, so I have no idea why I never clicked "publish"... But either way, it has been sitting in my drafts since last year (*whoops*) so I thought it was high time this pizza joint made an appearence on ze blog.

Pizza East is a restaurant chain based in London, and after photos of their food making numerous appearances on my Instagram feed, I thought it was worth seeing what the fuss was about. So one summer evening after interning, me, my sister Nathalie and bestie Grace headed to the Kentish Town branch for dinner. It is just set away from the main hustle and bustle of the suburb, and is accompanied by Chicken Shop downstairs and Dirty Burger around the back (which I seriously need to go back and try). When we got there, the interiors did make my heart melt a lil' bit because I do love a bit of a rustic feel to a resturant.

We had only booked the table for three at lunchtime so were told we could only have it for an hour and a half. The staff reminded us of this at the time, but luckily this didn't include the time we were waiting at the bar for our table to be prepared (which was only 5-10 minutes or so). For drinks, me and G ordered a cocktail that was named after Midnight which unfortunately is no longer on the menu, but it was delcious nonetheless.
When in a restuarant I tend to be so nosey, as I'm always curious to see what those around me had ordered - and the starters looked so tempting! But in the end, we all just settled for a main course. As the kitchen is fairly open, you can even see your pizza being cooked in the wood-fired oven - which is pretty cool. Nathalie went for the buffalo mozerella, tomato and basil pizza, Grace chose the spicy sausage, mozerella and brocolli pizza and I opted for the proscuitto cotto, tomato and calabrese chilli. I underestimated the spice of the chilli on mine (I love a bit of spice but my mouth is very sensitive to it), but otherwise it was a delicious pizza - and the crust is what dreams are made of. And the girls really enjoyed their pizzas too.

Overall it was a really delicious meal, it was a bit of a shame the staff reminded us that we needed to be out in after certain time though. On a more positive (and slightly weird) note, the toilets were really nice... Is it just me that thinks that when effort has been put into the powder room, you know it's a good resturant?

I'll definitely be back at a Pizza East branch soon, I think I want to try out the Shoreditch restuarant next. Has anyone else tried out Pizza East? What's your favourite pizza resturant?

  7. Looks like you had a great time Charlotte! I was actually at Pizza East Shoreditch last week and it was great fun, loved the food and atmosphere! Chicken Shop is also nice, Ive been to the Whitechapel one :)

I don't have a favourite pizza restaurant as I usually like to eat pizza at home, haha.

    1. Thanks Hanh we had a great time! Oh really? The Shoreditch branch is definitely next on my list to try. I've seen pictures and a vlog of the Whitechapel Chickenshop and really want to try it out too.. and Dirty Burger. Hahaha I tend to order too many Domino's with a student code so don't often opt for pizza when I eat out - but I can definitely make an exception for Pizza East and Franca Manca is so good too :) x

  8. Hey I also went there with my friends, and we ordered Basil and tomato pizza with lots of cheese. Pizza was really delicious. Well our next party is at party venues, and we have already decided our menu. Hope to have a great party there.
