Last Saturday night me and the fam headed to a pub very much local to us for dinner. We've eaten at The Bull many a time and the food is always delicious and the front pub garden always Instagram-worthy. It is the first in a long line of pubs that run up North Hill in Highgate, and they brand themselves as a gastro pub and brewpub as they have installed their own microbrewery in the building - believing that the heart of a great pub is amazing beer.
So we grabbed ourselves a beer when we got there and sat in the beautiful garden. With a drool-worthy menu it was quite difficult choosing what to eat, so we took our time outside before taking up our reserved table inside. Underneath each dish is a recommendation of which beer/ale/cider would best accompany it... how nifty is that? The pub always seems to be buzzing, and was a especially busy that night, so if you want to head down there on the weekend for a meal I'd recommend booking a table.
The service there is impeccable and we were well looked after by the staff. The decor inside is also very homely and welcoming. Unfortunately here is were the quality of my photos goes a bit downhill, as we were sat by candlelight in the low-lit eating area.
To eat I opted for The Bull Burger, which was served with bacon, smoked Applewood cheddar, chorizo jam, homemade chips and a side of mayo. The more you read this blog, the more apparent my love for chorizo will become, and I have to admit that this is the best burger I've had in a long while (and that says a lot as I order burgers 75% of the time when I eat out). The homemade chips were also divine.
My dad and sister both opted for the Rib-Eye of Angus Beef which came again with the heavenly chips, garlic and herb better and cress. My mum chose the Beer Street battered haddock and chips, and this is served with minted mushy peas, tartare sauce and lemon. Now she has this every-time she comes here, so I think that's a testament in itself for just how good it is.
Me and my sister split the Whole Roasted Peach dessert that comes with lavender syrup, Bo-chi lycée sorbet. This was an interesting and refreshing dessert, and quite different from anything I've had before.
Overall it was an enjoyable evening filled with great food, so if you are ever in North London or nearby, I'd strongly recommend giving The Bull a visit.
