How to Get Glowing

3 July 2015

With summer's arrival and temperatures on the rise, makeup goes minimal and focus turns on having that summer glow. But if you aren't sunning yourself on holiday this summer or prefer the shade or even suffer from dull skin, there are products that can help you get glowing. These makeup and skincare products are my current go-tos for injecting a bit of radiance into my complexion.

Starting with skincare, my first step is to use the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Skin Renewal Cleansing Oil morning and night. Even if you have oily skin, don't be put off by the thought of a cleansing oil - I have oily to combination skin and I'm pretty much in love with the stuff. Its fragrance is reminiscent of the 'Satsuma' range by The Body Shop and the smallest drop goes a long way. Massaging this oil onto dry skin can remove even the most waterproof of mascaras and the longer you massage (morning or night), the more the radiant your skin gets. Although most beauty bloggers are going off the idea of a manual cleansing scrub (preferring the chemical exfoliation of a toner), L'oreal Paris' Skin Perfection Radiance Revealing Gentle Exfoliator is a lovely second step cleanser to follow the Super Facialist oil. It reveals smoother, brighter looking skin, and like the oil, has a fruity, refreshing fragrance of peach to help boost your mood, as well as your complexion. As the title suggests it is a very gentle scrub that can be used daily.

When it comes to makeup I won't dwell on Soap and Glory's Love at First Blush and Solar Powder, as I recently did a full review of these lightening powders here. The third powder on this list is the honey-hued highlighter that every blogger and their mum probably owns, and that's the Mary Lou Manizer by theBalm. Although I have only used it a few times, I can really see what the hype around this product is about, with its abilities to diffuse light, add a subtle glow and make the skin's appearance softer. The highlighter can also double up as a shimmer powder or eyeshadow, which makes the product so much more than its pretty packaging. Bourjois' Healthy Mix Concealer's radiance boosting powers, is apparently down to its fruit extracts that the brand call its 'fruit therapy'; whilst the apricot extract brings out radiance, the melon works to hydrate the skin and the raspberry activates micro-circulation. Although I cannot confirm these fruity powers, I do notice a glow to my skin when using this concealer. It also offers high coverage of imperfections, whether that be under-eye circles or blemishes, despite its light liquid formula.

Products I'd love to add to this list but I haven't tried yet are the Pixi Glow Tonic Exfoliating Toner and the Super Facialist by Una Brennan Vitamin C+ Brighten Glow Boost Skin Serum. I have only read good things about these so I would love to add them to my skincare collection.

Have you tried any of these products? What do you use to get your skin looking healthy and radiant?

    1. It really is! I've not had it too long, but I definitely reserve it for the evening in the summer months - as I don't want to add shine in the day where it doesn't need to be. Thank you :) xx

    1. Yes it is really easy to overdo, but on the chance that I put too much on, I blend it out using a bigger brush! x

    1. Yeah I really like to have a glowing complexion in the summer just because I want to wear less makeup. It took me a while before taking the plunge to buy the Manizer but I'm so glad I did as it is really worth the hype :) x

  10. I still don't own the Mary-lou manizer, but I really really need to!! I did swatch my friends the other day though so now I'm 100% sure it'll suit me haha.
I still need to try S&G Solar Powder too, it sounds fab. I love High Beam, but sadly I only have a sample size :(.

    1. I'd definitely recommend purchasing the Mary-Lou Manizer! The colour is gorgeous and I'm sure it'll suit all complexions, and I'd also recommend the bronzer to anyone. I've tried my sister's sample pot of high beam and although I do like it, I don't think I've quite got the hang of using a liquid highlighter so I'm going to stick with this powder for a while :) x

  11. I have the cleansing oil and love it too, it's just so pleasant to use, feels so nice! :) I'd love to try the Mary Lou highlighter, and I'm always up for trying a new concealer so I'll bear the Bourjois one in mind when it comes to buying a new one :)
