I can't seem to read a beauty blog nowadays without the mention of bestseller EyeStudio Color Tattoo 24HR Gel Shadow by Maybelline, in particular the shade On and On Bronze (or Bad to the Bronze to any American readers out there). Being a lover of all eyeshadows bronze and gold, I was intrigued to see what all the fuss was about and picked up another shade along the way: Metallic Pomegranate.
The formula, as you may have guessed, is an exquisitely creamy gel and one that allows for the colour to be built up from a sheer layer to a much heavier one, and it still manages show off the metallic and sheeny pigment. Both of these shades have a gold shimmer to them, but of the two, On and On Bronze is inevitably more of a wearable, everyday shade. Although it is a beautiful bronze, of the two shades Metallic Pomegranate is my favourite and this swatch photo does not do the cranberry-purple-red-brown-gold kaleidoscope colouring justice. Some may argue that overdo-ing such a shade could border on it looking like your eye was punched rather than made up, but when you get the the application down to a tee, I find it really brings out your eye colour whatever that may be.
Talking of application, I mainly use my ring finger to smudge the cream shadow across the lid and then blend the formula across the crease with the aptly named Crease Brush from RealTechniques. These one wash wonders are pigmented enough to work on their own without a powder shadow to add definition or set them. With their name claiming to last 24 hours, longevity is expected from the get-go, and the product doesn't disappoint. The shadow lasts all day and night, and you can test this out for yourself just by swatching the beautiful shadows at the Maybelline stand - the formula does not budge (without a very strong makeup remover of course).
So what's my verdict on the hype? Definitely. Worth. It.
Have you tried out these shadows? Know of any other makeup products that are worth their 'cult' status?

I use On and On Bronze pretty much everyday, it looks good on its own and as a base! I really should give another shade a try! x

Ah really? I've not had mine too long, but I really want to start wearing it more. If you are looking for another shade I couldn't recommend Metallic Pomegranate more :) x
DeleteI've wanted to try these for SO long now, every review I've read makes them sound amazing!
ReplyDeleteThe Velvet Black | UK Style & Beauty Blog
They definitely are amazing, I couldn't recommend them more! x
DeleteThese shades are stunning, especially metallic pomegranate! :)
ReplyDeleteUrban Obsessions // Vegan Food, Beauty & Lifestyle
Ah I'm glad you agree - Metallic Pomegranate is so beautiful, I wish the swatch photo had captured it better! x
DeleteI have a few of them and I would say the more neutral shades are must- haves, though I have a couple of shades that I already regret that I bought.
ReplyDeleteYeah I'd definitely say that On and On Bronze is a must-have but I do love Metallic Pomgegrante more as it is more unique. I definitely want to try out some more shades after the success of these :) x

I love the shades! I normally only use powder but I really like this! Thanks for the review
ReplyDeleteNatalia | Lindifique
I normally just use powder shadows too and use my Naked palette religiously, but I've definitely been converted to cream shadows after using these :) you're welcome! x
DeleteI love these and the colours are gorgeous! x

DeleteThey're so pigmented! Love on and on bronze

They are probably the most pigmented shadows I've tried! On and on bronze is gorgeous :) x
DeleteI bought two of these before (in the same colors I think!), but I ended up giving them away - I have a lot of trouble with cream eyeshadows unfortunately. I wish these worked well with me, they have such gorgeous colors!
ReplyDeletebecky ♡ star violet
Ah really? That is such a shame! I think it does take a little while to get used to cream products in general, I don't tend to get on with creamy highlighters but I get on really well with these cream eyeshadows! x
DeletewE LOVE THE COLOUR TATTOOS AND USE THEM DAILY! wE HAVE TOUGH AS TAU[E AND BAD TO THE BRONZE.

Yay another color tattoo fan! It's so funny how in the UK the shades are called different things. 'Bad to the Bronze' is the identical shade to 'On and On Bronze' that I talked about above, and 'Tough as Taupe' is called 'Permanent Taupe' here x
DeleteOoh these sound fab! I must try them soon :) x
ReplyDeleteThe Belle Narrative
They really are as good as they sound! I'd highly recommend them to anyone :) x
DeleteThose shades are perfect for night outs and events

Yes they really are the perfect shades for exactly that! Though I would say that On and On Bronze is more of an everyday shade, and can be worn as part of a casual look :) x
DeleteOoh I have the shade 'On and On Bronze' and I absolutely love it- desperate to try metallic pomegranate, it is such a gorgeous shade!

Ah I'm so glad I'm not the only what that adores these eyeshadows! I've not yet tried creamy beige, but have seen it a fair few times on Instagram - so will definitely be swatching it soon. Thanks for the recommendation :) xx
Deletewhat a lovely shade! and i love how opaque is this product! i would love to try it :)
ReplyDeletexx Jamie| Love Peace and Shimmer
The swatches are quite opaque, but you can also lightly apply the shadows if you want a more sheer effect. The fact that you can build the formula and colour up to how you want it is definitely one of my favourite qualities to it. I'd definitely recommend you try them Jamie :) x
DeleteOn & On Bronze is just one of my all-time favourites and I reach of it at least once a week :) I'm so glad you enjoyed it too and I'll definitely be bringing Metallic Pomegranate out for A/W xx
ReplyDeleteJasmine Talks Beauty
Yes On and On Bronze is such a wearable shade :) oh I didn't even think of Metallic Pomegranate as an autumn/winter shade until you mentioned it! I've been wearing it quite sheerly in the summer months, but I'll be building up the colour a bit more in winter. Thanks for reading Jasmine! xx
Deletethat gold one is gorgeous! x
ReplyDeleteHannah x hannatalks
It really is! I love how it has such a bronzey gold pigment to it :) x
DeleteThanks for this review!! I love the shades, they're so gorgeous!
ReplyDeletehannie ; huemorist.blogspot.com
You are welcome Hannie! Ah I'm glad you you agree, I love these shades so much I really want to try out some more :) x
DeleteOoo so beautiful! I love that its a cream shadow, perfect for summer time in my opinion.
ReplyDeletehttp://arnellavanilla.com/category/home/
Yeah I think the formula is perfect for summer, when you want a fuss-free approach to your make-up. But the colour of Metallic Pomegranate definitely seems to be a perfect autumn/winter colour :) x
DeleteWow, so gorgeous and pigmented! I'm not usually one for eyeshadows but I might just have to add one of these to my everyday makeup look!
ReplyDeleteEmily // Lynde Avenue
They really are! And being in a creamy gel formula they are so easy to apply. On and On Bronze is my quick go-to shadow now :) x
DeleteI love those shades! I've been holding off on picking up some of these because the bronzes and silvers weren't really my thing, but I love these shades! I'll be on the look out now
ReplyDeleteAnna | www.emptysundays.com
Ah I'm glad to read that! Silver isn't a shadow colour I normally consider, but this is a really lovely cool bronze and the other is a warm reddy toned show. I'd really recommed you give them a try Anna :) x
DeleteLovely post doll! I have recently bought this product in 'pink gold' (think thats what the shade is called haha!), and I am in love with it. I'm not huge on eyeshadow to be honest, but this is so easy to pull of that 'i'm not wearing any makeup' look xx
ReplyDeleteLaura | Lala London: Beauty & Lifestyle
Aw thank you so much! Oh I have heard of Pink Gold, think that may have to be the next shade I pick up. I like using On and On Bronze on its own if I'm opting for a really simple makeup look. Thanks for stopping by Laura :) x
DeleteOn and on bronze is the best eye shadow. And I really want that Metallic pomegranate, have picked it up several times and kept it back and then it keeps haunting me haha..
