NARS Eyeshadow Duo in Isolde

6 July 2014

So here's another post about a NARS makeup product (oops), but I bought it with the same ASOS discount that I used for my Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Red Square and thought it was well worth sharing it on here.

I strongly believe that certain makeup colours can enhance your eye colour, and having brown eyes I have felt that golds, browns and greens, and in general, warm shades suit my eyes and complexion. So when I saw this warmly toned, coppery, goldy duo by NARS, I couldn't really resist.

This pretty duo is named Isolde, and is the brand's bestselling duo. Both its shades have a warm metallic finish: the first shade, as you can see, is a yellowy gold and the second is a copper brown. Both of these shades work like dream together, and when using them together I sweep the gold all over the eyelid and focus the brown on the outer corners of the eye, to create a 3D shadow look. The shadows are highly pigmented, meaning that you don't need a lot of it to create a colourful look. The consistency of the NARS shadows are also lovely as they are far from chalky, like some drugstore brands, so if you are looking for a silky feel to a shadow powder definitely pop down to one of NARS' counters.

The simple yet pretty packaging is also a bonus. However, the black does seem to attract foundation finger marks, but I do take a little pride in cleaning it, as this is the most I have spent on an eyeshadow (excluding my Urban Decay Naked Palette).

Priced at £25, it is far from the cheapest eyeshadow duo on the block, but the quality you get from that price (in my opinion) is worth it. Splurging on a higher quality makeup product once in a while, won't break the bank and this has become a sure staple in my makeup bag. So here's a preview of what it looks like on...

So what is your favourite eyeshadow duo or palette?
And do you think a duo like this is worth the extra money?

  4. I'm so glad to hear that the quality of this eyeshadow duo is buttery and smooth, as it's one of the ones that I'm interested in! I've heard of a few flops among the duos, so it's great that this one checks out. Nars has got the formula of their metallic shades down in my opinion, but their mattes can be a little chalky, and I think that's where some people run into issues. Some of their shimmers can be sheer, but I always think they do that intentionally, as it normally shows up with the more colorful shades to make them more wearable.
Love the look of those shades on your brown eyes, and there is a whole lot of truth to color theory and shades that compliment each eye color, I don't think it's only a marketing thing for cosmetics companies in the least!

I LOVE your layout by the way, I know you mentioned in another post as I was scrolling through that you thought it might be a little too gray, but I think it's perfect. I love the hand drawn type of look as it's so much more unique and cute than a lot of other blogger's layouts, even some of the bigger bloggers who can afford to pay someone to do up their blog with their revenue!

    1. Ah I'm yet to hear a bad review of the duos, but it wouldn't surprise me if some of the pastel shades and mattes they have are a little chalky. But I've read some amazing reviews of their new dual intensity shadows, want to try them out but they're a bit expensive!
Aww thank you so much for your kind comments! It was just the way the scan had gone through that I wasn't happy with, but overall I like hand-drawn designs because I think it makes a blog that bit more personal :)
